"Mortal Kombat Conquest," is a one-hour, syndicated weekly live-action series based on the highly successful "Mortal Kombat" video game and movie franchise. It has been declared a stable go for fall 1998 with more than 90% clearance. This info was announced by Scott Carlin, Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, and Robert Friedman, President, New Line Television. The series will be executive produced by Larry Kasanoff, producer of both MK feature films and other media related to the property.

"Mortal Kombat Conquest" is a joint venture between New Line Television (which will produce the series with Kasanoff and his Threshold Entertainment) and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution (which will market and distribute the series).

The series has been reserved on weekend timeslots on 90 stations (including all 40 of the top 40 markets) and on The WB Television Network's The WeB (a unique network within a network launching in fall 1998 which is comprised of 111 cable affiliates covering markets 100+). All in all, the series has been cleared in more than 90% of the country. Stations in top 10 markets clearing the series are: WCBS-TV (New York), KCAL-TV (Los Angeles), WCIU-TV (Chicago), WPSG-TV (Philadelphia), KOFY-TV (San Francisco), WABU-TV (Boston), WDCA-TV (Washington, DC), KTXA-TV (Dallas), WDWB-TV (Detroit) and WATL-TV (Atlanta).

"This series is based on one of the most successful and recognizable franchises in the world and we’re convinced that with 'Mortal Kombat Conquest' we have a hit in the making," said Carlin. "Stations are recognizing the potential of a series that will be produced with the same quality and incredible special effects as its hugely popular preceding feature films."

"We believe 'Mortal Kombat Conquest' represents the best in action adventure programming," said Friedman. "The box office success of the feature films is a testament to the enormous popularity of this franchise and we are confident that millions of 'Mortal Kombat' fans will embrace the television series when it premieres this fall."

The "Mortal Kombat" series will follow the journys of Kung Lao and his companions as they defend Earth against the forces of Outworld in Mortal Kombat--a tournament based on honor and tradition. The series will feature exciting martial arts sequences and special effects.

"Mortal Kombat Conquest" will be filmed at the Disney/MGM Studios in Orlando as well as at Splendid China, a unique Central Florida attraction which features detailed replicas of China’s historic landmarks.

Threshold Entertainment has produced all of the media related to the "Mortal Kombat' franchise, which has grossed more than $4 billion worldwide as of today. Two feature films have been produced -- "Mortal Kombat," which grossed more than $70 million worldwide, and "Mortal Kombat Annihilation," which debuted as the number-one movie its opening weekend (November 21, 1997). In addition to being the best-selling video game in history, "Mortal Kombat" has been translated by Threshold into a top-rated animated series, a platinum-selling CD, a sold-out, live-event tour, a successful toy line, and a number-one animated home video.

Threshold Entertainment is an intellectual property management company specializing in digital media. The company develops, manages, produces and publishes intellectual properties in all media, retaining ownership of the digital assets and media. Threshold is currently in post-production on the feature film "Beowulf," which is set for domestic release by Dimension Films later this year. Based on the Norse legend and starring Christopher Lambert, "Beowulf" is set in a timeless world of supernatural evil and inexplicable danger fueled by relentless action and breakthrough special effects. In addition to numerous other film and television projects in development, Threshold recently launched Threshold Digital Research Labs, a cutting-edge, worldwide online digital production studio, which produces digital assets for media related to Threshold projects.

New Line Television was launched in 1991 by Robert Friedman. A division of New Line Cinema, New Line Television is responsible for the distribution of New Line Cinema films to television, cable and pay-per-view markets; the production and distribution of original television programming; and the licensing and merchandising for all New Line properties. The company completed its merger with Turner Broadcasting Systems in 1994, and is now a Time Warner company.

Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution is one of the industry's leading distributors of first-run and off-network programming in the domestic television marketplace as well as the industry's largest syndicator in terms of barter units inventory.

General addmission to view the filming of the shows will be permitted, as well as picture taking. Visit Splendid China's website for details on admission price and directions if you are interested in attending a taping, which will begin next month.

Handling of all of the exterior shots for the show will be done inside the park itself, and the interior shots will be filmed at Disney's MGM Sound Studios. No filming will be done in New Zealand, contrary to a previous report.

The filming of Mortal Kombat Conquest began on July 6, 1998. This according to Scott Shaw, Vice President of CTS Investments USA, and Wayne Morris who is producing the series.

Mortal Kombat Conquest casting took place on Sunday, June 28, 10 AM to 3 PM. at Splendid China, which is located at 3000 Splendid China Blvd, Kissimmee, Fl. (On Hwy 192 west of Disney).

All ethnic groups, both sexes, ages 12 to 45 were welcome for the casting call. You could bring one photo of yourself (which will not be returned) to give to Ellen Jacoby, who is in charge of casting.

Recently, The new MK show underwent a name change, going from Mortal Kombat Krusades to Mortal Kombat Conquest, with a "C" and not a "K".

Even with the show's recent name change, Mortal Kombat Conquest is still on schedule and should be airing sometime in the next 3 weeks on WB affiliates such as UPN.
